Seven Essential Wellness Tips To Add To Your Self-Care Routine.
Created by Roll Model, Training & Wellness Expert Amanda Butler.

How often are you finding yourself over-worked, uninspired, and missing the freedom of peace, rest, and happiness? In today’s society we are raised to believe working more = better and rest = laziness.

We rush to fill our already busy schedules with more work, dinners, birthday parties, and events we don’t really want to attend but are afraid to say “no”. Instead of listening to the intuitive signals our mind and body are sending us for rest and relaxation, we ignore the signs and continue to bulldoze through our weeks like the champions we believe we are.

Just as important as working hard is taking adequate rest and incorporating daily wellness techniques into your lifestyle, which will not only boost energy levels, but will lead to living a more balanced and happy life.

By choosing to prioritize self-care, you are prioritizing your needs to help you become a better boss, employee, friend, partner and individual.

Here are 7 Wellness to-do Tips for Self-Care:

1. Meditate Daily

Start slowly with 5-10 minute meditations in the morning or night to set the tone for the rest of the day or to close out your day. When we meditate, we lower stress levels, connect with ourselves, improve our focus, become more patient and treat ourselves more kindly.

We are creating space from the react vs respond mindset and allow ourselves to fully live in the present moment. Meditation takes practice but some of my favorite guided meditations can be found on Insight Timer, Calm, or Headspace apps.

2. No Cell Phone First 30-Minutes After Waking

Create 30-minutes of “me” time before you start your day. How you start your day is typically how the remainder of the day tends to go. If you choose to look at emails, social media, or the news right when you rise, this may leave you feeling stressed and anxious.

If you are conscious with your time, devoting it to meditating, journaling or quiet time, you will subconsciously be more grounded throughout your day.

3. Get in Movement

Movement truly is medicine. When we are feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, or over-worked, breaking a sweat for as short as 20-minutes can drastically alter your mood.

By releasing toxins and stagnant energy, you can clear your head and activate endorphins to relieve stress and pain. We have tons of free work out classes on our IGTV - pick your flavor and get moving'!

4. Incorporate More Play

We forget as adults that it is okay to play - because in all reality, we’re simply big kids at heart! Get out in nature, have a laugh with friends, make a list of all the things you loved to do as a kid and do them!

If you’re feeling down about any life situation, adding more joy into your life will help free up any negative thinking, even if only momentarily. Check out our IGTV dance classes to put a smile on your face here.

5. Disconnect

Set Boundaries for yourself by scheduling your time.

It’s important to set boundaries with yourself and your needs. It may sound fun to fill your “loosely planned” self-care weekend with dinner dates, friend meetups, and family time, but you are again putting your needs on the back burner.

Block out time in your calendar to fully disconnect from others to spend time alone clearing your thoughts and recharging your batteries. Maybe it’s a vacation you need? Or maybe it’s just a full day bingeing Netflix. Regardless, give yourself that time and soak up every minute.

6. Start a Journaling Practice

By journaling 5-10 minutes each day, you can allow yourself to remain present of your current wants, wishes and desires. Journaling allows you to clear up space in your mind and get really clear on what you want to manifest into your life.

Create a gratitude list, manifestation list, or just getting your thoughts out on paper will help your mind feel more supported.

7. Don’t Skimp on Sleep!

Making sure you incorporate 7-8 hours of sleep every night is crucial to your overall wellness. When our bodies are not adequately rested, both our brain and body are tired and working in overdrive to try to keep up. Sleep boosts our mood, immune system, and will allow you to be more productive without feeling like death by 3pm. Never underestimate the power of quality sleep!

Remember, you don’t have to be perfect and you don’t have to start incorporating all of these tips at once! Start small with just 1-2 for a few weeks, and slowly start to add items into your daily routine as you see fit. Take notice on how you feel and if any negative symptoms start to disappear.

We must take care of ourselves not only on the physical level, but on a spiritual, mental and emotional level as well!
