Let’s admit it, most of us are bad at recycling! It’s okay, it’s not an easy feat to achieve zero waste alone. More laws, corporate responsibility, community involvement, and better recycling programs are needed, but in the meantime, your own will really does help. Starting with a few small conscious lifestyle changes is the first step - educate yourself and in turn educate your friends and family, and we’ll be that one step closer to a greener future.
Don’t know where to start? Do not fear! Sunday, 15 November is #AmericaRecyclesDay which educates and encourages people on how to be more mindful of what they consume, where and how to properly recycle and to pledge to recycle more and recycle right in their everyday lives.
This year, we’ve teamed up with Keep America Beautiful, to make it a little easier for you at home. Between 15-16 November, MOBOT has pledged to donate $10 cash back on all purchases over $50 to the charity. Lani, and the MOBOT team are excited to see what we can achieve together to help combat climate change.
“We need to see the consequences, in our own backyard! For years, the USA shipped its waste off to other countries, instead of setting up recycling programs on home soil. Since China implemented Operation Green Fence, rejecting recycling that was too dirty to recycle cost effectively, we now have some work to do to keep America beautiful!” Says Lani.
Classifying what can be recycled can be difficult! That’s why I like the 3R’s - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Considering these three simple “R’s” can help preserve natural resources, reduce waste, energy consumption, pollution and protect the planet and even our health!
Reduce - Try and keep purchases to a minimum and only consume what you really need. You’ll save yourself from overspending and save on household clutter too! And while you’re at it, don’t forget about donating the things you rarely use anymore - one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
Reuse - Repurposing and reusing household items is such a great way to save on waste. Reusing everyday items like containers, straws, bottles and coffee cups bags will help the environment and your wallet.
Recycle - Get friendly and familiar with what can be recycled, and embrace it! The process in which something can be recreated into something new is an incredible process. Also, try to purchase recycled items whenever possible.
